The 30-second summary
The IdeaPad Slim 5 16AKP10 is a big-screen work laptop that is well balanced for documents, all-day video calls and working on the road: aluminium chassis, strong 60Wh battery, Wi-Fi 7, a 1080p IR camera, and two SODIMM RAM slots plus a free SSD slot for future upgrades. Know before you buy: the integrated graphics are modest, there's no Ethernet port, and the bundled Office Home 2024 is licensed for non-commercial use — budget for Microsoft 365 Business if it's a company machine. Around THB 30,000–33,000 before VAT.

If you are choosing laptops for office staff, or a new work machine for yourself at around THB 30,000, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 has probably crossed your radar. The 16AKP10 is the 2025 generation, now built on AMD's Ryzen AI 300 Series and certified as a Microsoft Copilot+ PC.
This review is not just a list of benchmark numbers. We look at it the way business owners and purchasing teams actually decide: build quality, future upgrades, the ports an office needs, and a software licensing detail many buyers miss.
Quick verdict: pros and cons
Quick Verdict: A 16-inch laptop that suits people who live in documents and video calls all day. Solid build, long battery life, and more upgrade headroom than most thin laptops at this price — but it is not built for heavy graphics work or gaming.
Pros
- Aluminium lid and base, 16.9 mm thin, MIL-STD-810H tested
- DDR5 SODIMM ×2 (up to 32GB) plus a free M.2 slot
- 60Wh battery with Rapid Charge Boost
- Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4
- 1080p + IR face login camera with privacy shutter and ToF sensor
- 1TB SSD out of the box; full keyboard with numpad
Cons
- Radeon 820M graphics are weak for video editing or 3D
- 45% NTSC panel is fine for documents, not colour-critical work
- No Ethernet port and no fingerprint reader
- Bundled Office Home 2024 doesn't cover commercial use
- Speakers are only average
Unboxing: what's in the box?
The laptop ships in a plain brown corrugated box. A Microsoft sticker on the side says it includes Office 2024 desktop apps, 100GB of cloud storage and ad-free email (that is, a 1-year Microsoft 365 Basic subscription). Inside are the laptop, a 65W USB-C adapter and the warranty paperwork.

Our first impression lifting it out was that the Luna Grey aluminium lid looks cleaner and more professional than expected — no patterns, no RGB, perfectly at home in a client meeting.

Design and weight: is it portable enough?
Yes, but it is a 16-inch laptop at roughly 1.85 kg — better for carrying some of the time than all day, every day.
The chassis is 16.9 mm thick with an aluminium lid and base, and Lenovo says it passes MIL-STD-810H military-standard testing, which helps when it travels in a bag every week. (Notebookcheck weighed its unit at 1.87 kg, close to spec.)
One thing we noticed on the real unit: the power button sits on the right side of the chassis, next to the microSD slot, rather than on the keyboard. It prevents accidental presses, though new users may have to look for it.
The full-size keyboard includes a numeric keypad and a dedicated Copilot key — a real plus for accounting teams entering numbers all day. Notebookcheck rated the keyboard as good to type on.
Is the 16-inch WUXGA screen good enough for office work?
Good enough for documents, spreadsheets and video calls, but not for colour-accurate work.
The 16-inch 1920×1200 panel has a 16:10 aspect ratio, giving about 10% more vertical space than a typical 16:9 screen — more Excel rows and more of a document without constant scrolling. It is an IPS panel rated at 300 nits.
Notebookcheck measured about 332 nits, a contrast ratio around 1,058:1, and no PWM flicker, which is kind to your eyes over a long day. Colour coverage is about 45% NTSC (roughly 58% sRGB), so colours look flatter than on premium screens. For print design or photo editing, connect a colour-accurate external monitor over HDMI 2.1 or USB-C.
How fast is the Ryzen AI 5 330, and what does Copilot+ do?
More than fast enough for office apps and video calls at the same time, but the integrated graphics are modest — not a machine for editing or gaming.
The Ryzen AI 5 330 has 4 cores and 8 threads and boosts up to 4.5 GHz. In Notebookcheck's testing it scored around 7,840 in Cinebench R23 multi-core and about 1,812 single-core. In practice that means a large Excel file, dozens of browser tabs, Teams and a chat app run smoothly together. What you should know is that the Radeon 820M graphics scored only around 786 in 3DMark Time Spy — weak for 3D work or games.
Notebookcheck also praised how cool and quiet it runs, with fan noise around 32–42 dB depending on load — fine for meeting rooms and quiet offices.
Is Copilot+ actually useful for work?
The chip's NPU (AI engine) is rated at up to 50 TOPS, above Microsoft's 40 TOPS bar for Copilot+ PCs, so it can run Windows 11's on-device AI features, including:
- Live Captions — real-time subtitles and translation of spoken audio, handy in calls with overseas partners
- Windows Studio Effects — background blur, lighting correction and auto-framing without loading the CPU
- AI image and search features such as Cocreator in Paint and natural-language file search
Honestly, today these AI features are a nice bonus rather than the main reason to buy — but they keep the laptop ready for the AI software coming over the next few years.
Can you upgrade the RAM and SSD?
Yes, both — and for company purchases this is the model's biggest strength.
Most thin laptops now have soldered RAM that can never be upgraded. The IdeaPad Slim 5 16AKP10 uses two DDR5 SODIMM slots; the 83HY008UTA ships with 2 × 8GB (dual-channel), and Lenovo lists a maximum of 32GB.
On storage, the included 1TB SSD is an M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0 x4 drive, and there is a free M.2 2280 slot for a second SSD. (According to PSREF, that second slot runs at PCIe 4.0 x2 on Ryzen AI 5 330 models — still far faster than you need for work files.)
Ports, Wi-Fi 7 and camera: enough for the office?
Enough for everyday use — except for the missing Ethernet port.
On the left you get HDMI 2.1 (4K at 60Hz), two 10Gbps USB-C ports for charging and DisplayPort 1.4 output, and the audio jack. On the right are two 5Gbps USB-A ports (one can supply power while the laptop is off) and a microSD reader.
Wireless is Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth 5.4, which Notebookcheck found fast. But there is no Ethernet port. If desks use wired LAN, or office systems need a cable for stability, budget for a USB-C to Ethernet adapter or a USB-C dock.
The 1080p camera with IR supports Windows Hello face login, has a privacy shutter, and adds a ToF sensor that detects whether you're in front of the screen — for example, to lock the laptop automatically when you walk away. Note that there is no fingerprint reader. The 2 × 2W Dolby Audio speakers are fine for calls; for music or large meeting rooms, use a headset or external speaker.
How long does the battery last?
A full working day of documents and web, with fast charging.
The 60Wh battery is something Notebookcheck rated very highly in its testing. The laptop supports Rapid Charge Boost — Lenovo says 15 minutes of charging gives about 2 hours of use — and charges over 65W USB-C, so you can share USB-C chargers or a PD power bank.
Can the bundled Office Home 2024 be used at work?
Under Microsoft's terms, Office Home 2024 is for non-commercial use (home and school), so it does not cover use in a business.
This is where many business owners slip up because "it already comes with Office". The licence bundled with consumer laptops is a different type from a business licence. If this laptop will be used for company work, the right options are:
- Microsoft 365 Business (annual/monthly) — the latest Office apps, company-domain email, Teams and 1TB of OneDrive per user, all centrally managed
- Office Home & Business 2024 (one-time purchase) — for companies that only need desktop Office apps, without cloud services
Also note that the laptop ships with Windows 11 Home. If your company uses Active Directory, manages devices with Intune, or wants centrally managed BitLocker, you will need to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.
Price and value
At this price, the IdeaPad Slim 5 16AKP10's value is in what you get without paying extra: a 1TB SSD, upgradable 16GB RAM, Wi-Fi 7, an IR camera and an aluminium chassis — where many similarly priced laptops make you give up one or two of those. For company use, set aside budget for a business Office licence and an Ethernet adapter if needed.
Who it's for — and who should skip it
Who it's for
- Office staff working in Excel, Word, web ERP and Teams/Zoom all day
- Sales staff and consultants who visit clients and need all-day battery
- Anyone who wants a big 16-inch screen and a numpad for accounting work
- Companies that want upgradable RAM/SSD for a 4–5 year lifecycle
Who should skip it
- Video editing, 3D design or gaming — look for a discrete GPU
- Colour-critical print or graphics work
- Desks that need a wired LAN connection all the time (you'll need a USB-C to Ethernet adapter)
- People who carry a laptop everywhere every day — a 14-inch model is lighter
Compared with the previous IdeaPad Slim 5i
We reviewed the IdeaPad Slim 5i 16IRL8 (13th-gen Intel Core i5) in early 2024. Side by side, the new model clearly wins on upgradable RAM, a bigger SSD, Wi-Fi 7, HDMI 2.1 and an NPU for AI, while the older model has more CPU cores and a longer warranty.
| IdeaPad Slim 5 16AKP10 (this model) | IdeaPad Slim 5i 16IRL8 (previous) | |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Ryzen AI 5 330 (4C/8T) | Core i5-13500H (12C/16T) |
| NPU / Copilot+ | 50 TOPS · Copilot+ PC | None |
| Memory | 16GB DDR5-5600 SODIMM, upgradable | 16GB LPDDR5 soldered (not upgradable) |
| SSD | 1TB + one free slot | 512GB |
| Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi 7 | Wi-Fi 6E |
| HDMI | 2.1 (4K 60Hz) | 1.4b |
| Battery | 60Wh | 56.6Wh |
| Weight | ~1.85 kg | 1.89 kg |
| Warranty | 2 years | 3 years onsite (per our earlier review) |
16IRL8 figures are from Hinet's earlier review (Jan 2024); that model is being phased out and is shown only to illustrate how the series has moved on.
The Hinet perspective
What we tell business customers who ask about this model
From supplying and deploying laptops for SME clients, a machine at this level makes a good standard laptop for office staff: there's enough headroom for documents, many browser tabs and video calls for years, and when 16GB starts to feel tight you can go to 32GB without replacing the laptop.
What we set up before handing machines to a company: the right Office licence, an upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Pro if the laptop must join a domain or be managed with Intune, disk encryption, and a USB-C to Ethernet adapter for wired desks.
Verdict: should you buy it?
If you want a big-screen office laptop that is durable, lasts all day on battery and will stay useful for years, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 16AKP10 (83HY008UTA) is a very sensible choice at around THB 30,000 — especially because the RAM and SSD can be upgraded, which is rare at this level.
If your main work is graphics, video or colour-critical design, step up to a model with a discrete GPU or a better screen. And for company purchases, plan the Office licence properly from day one.
